Great labels, fast shipping

These are definitely the Cadillac of labels, but since I bought these I have purchased some of the generic labels that are also available through Amazon. If you don't need the nice cardboard package to store them in and the TrueBlock feature (I use them only on new envelopes so I don't have any old writing to cover up) of these Averys you can save some bucks with the generics.

Perfect for bottle labels

I use these as labels for bottles. It is the perfect size for labeling 12.7 ounce bottles. The positive points are:

1 - They do not jam, bend or otherwise get messed up during the printing cycle.
2 - They peel easily from the sheet, but stick VERY firmly to glass.
3 - They are thick enough so that they can be applied to bottles smoothly with no wrinkles. This is a HUGE advantage over some other types of labels we have tried.
4 - The 5264 template is built in to most major software packages. Setting up the labels for printing was a breeze.

The negatives are: Haven't found any yet!

Nice general-purpose shipping label

We use these labels for shipping but also to mark storage bins and the like. They are well-behaved in the printer.

An earlier batch of the same item number became a little translucent after about 8 years on the shelf. I think the current product has improved opacity.

these toners are shown and advertised as HP Toners - they are not HP and are an after market product - deceptive advertising - not sure if they work, as I have not tried them - but am very disappointed that the product is not what is advertised

Very nice on color laser!get StarOffice 7 for free templates

Finally I can design and print my own business cards. I have tested the Averys 8371 on my Color Laser QMS printer (QMS 2350 EN) and these avery sheets have worked wonderfully.

In the software side, I just used StarOffice 7, the very affordable Office Suite for linux and windows, which includes pre-made templates for all Avery labels and sheets!

Once printed, you only have to fold each line back and forth and bingo... perfect cards as if cut with a professional paper cutter. If you use a high quality printer, nobody will be able to tell your personal or business card was self-made.

Great ink!

I bought a cute little mobile Hp Deskjet 450cbi for college, which has proved to be tiny but reliable, and it's definitely worth the money. While three months of use of our Epson printer at home drains the cartridge, three months of printing out two to three several-page papers every week using my HP 450cbi leaves the cartridge drained only to 40%. Great moneysaver for a poor college student like me!

Good quality black ink cartridge

I upgraded to a new HP printer/scanner/copier 1350 earlier this year having used an old Deskjet 610C previously and was frankly very pleased with the quality that the new printer produced with this cartridge. The text is very crisp and clean and unlike the old printer ink does not smudge if left in the printer whilst the next sheet is sliding onto it.

HP cartridges always are a little more expensive than others but I do think they're worth the price. And they are coming down in price, I can remember when a black deskjet printer cartridge cost nearly £20 and a tricolor cartridge nearly £30.

You can ignore the warning that the cartridge is running low in ink as it comes up much sooner than is necessary. Generally speaking when HP cartridges (laser and deskjet) start to run out you get portions of the page text faded out in the printout and that doesn't usually happen for quite some time after the warning message appears.

Could be better, but could be worse!

I just recently purchases an HP5550 and the printer, despite some negative reviews on speed... is excellent. The Ink is another story altogether. The cartridges are very small and after 1 week of regular use (home business printing, 4 or 5 pictures on sample paper) the ink is almost 1/2 finished!!! This could be a problem in the end as the ink is more expensive than other printer manufacturers. I guess watching ink consumption is something HP did not warn us about!

EPSON INK JET CARTRIDGES

BEWARE: They were "compatible" cartridges. When I put them in the ink jet printer (EPSON NX400, EPSON STYLUS) it rejected them as not TRUE Epson cartridges. I had to play with them so it would accept them and it was a pain in the butt. The printer will not work if it does not get the proper cartridges. These cost less but you may be at risk if your printer does not accept them (even with playing around with them, like I did. I was lucky). If the printer did not like one of them, I would replace that one with another one and I HOPED the printer will not make a fuss on it. I was lucky.

So I finally had to change the ink cartridges and was a little worried that they wouldn't be compatible with my Epson printer. And to my surprise, they worked perfectly!!! Overall very good quality cartridges that cost a fraction of the brand-name ones. If I did a lot of photo printing I would probably have to do a comparison to see which ones were actually better and more accurate, but for the general printing duties I use this for these definitely do the trick.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

I bought a set of epson ink catridges back in May 2010 (it is now Sept 2010). I ordered the correct ink for my printer but my printer wouldn't read the cartridge. After much back and forth with LD Products/4inkjets they told me to send the ink back (which I did) for a FULL refund. 4 months later!!!! I have no refund and no ink. I believe that's called stealing. They've been stringing me along telling me I'll get a refund every time I call and they have yet to issue it. Now its too late for my credit card to reverse charges and Amazon guarantee is expired. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH LD PRODUCTS!!!!! THEY WILL SEND YOU FAULTY MERCHANDISE AND KEEP YOUR MONEY!!!!!! BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!

Genuine Epson 79 Ink Cartridges by EApLANET are incompatible with Epson stylus Photo 1400

After insertion a cartridge of the To79 series sold byEApLANET into the ink compartment of the Epson stylus Photo 1400 printer, one or two picture may be printed. Then the cartridge would stop delivering ink, without setting the usual signal to stop printing. The only way to repair the system is to throw out the cartridge and take another brand that is compatible. Alltogether, this experience is very much annoying. EApLANET is adviced to stop selling this product.

Unusable, Defective, Appears Refurbished

This toner cartridge apparently has an uneven toner drum, which causes blue spotting all over printed pages. No manner of cleaning was able to fix it. This is my second (and last) Eagle toner. I was unhappy with the first, which leaves horizontal lines on printouts. I thought I'd try it again. This one is also bad. I'll buy real HP cartridges from now on, locally, since buying toner on-line appears problematic.

Don't bother

Don't bother.

The vendor is very nice and tried to fix the problems with this product, but unfortunately the cartridges are poorly (Re)manufactured. The Toners used do not conform to the HP colors, so you can't mix these with other cartridges. The colors are non-uniform and faded.

The first set of cartridges I received spilled toner all over the place, and the replacements I received produced aweful results.

Pleasantly Surprised

I've bought "compatible" and "refills" in past for other inkjet and laser printers. My HP printers would always give me a warning when installing AND at every print job. Some would even make "clunking" noises and lock up. The Epson didn't care, but the ink only lasted a month. I swore these off for years and always went with OEM because of the hassle.

I couldn't get the cyan to stop streaking. Printer says it's 80 something %, installed in 2010, less than 400 pages printed. Local stores are over $100. Amazon $80. After seeing the price of the compatible and the reviews were 50/50, I figured for 20 bucks why not. I noticed some of the bad reviews were about certain sellers and the quality of their product. I scrolled 'til I saw sellers with 99% positive. One had 2+ thousand and the other had 20+ thousand ratings. So I went with TonerPals. Paid a little extra for the cartridge with reasonable shipping price to Hawaii, total $39.47.

Got the package in 3 days, well packaged & well protected. Installed the cartridge, turned on the printer, printer went into calibration mode which seemed like a very long time, longer than usual and thought I had a dud. The green light came on and the display said "ready". Typed the ip address for the printer, looked up the supplies status, and NO warnings. Shows 100%, estimated pages = 2000, pages printed = zero, current install date, even had a serial number. Printed a few pages and no problems, at least with the cyan.

Pleasant experience, ordered a magenta cartridge ($32.81 w/ ship) & installed w/ no problems, and will order another color when I need to. Can't comment on the longevity of the toner or cartridge yet.

So... Bought from TonerPals, no comments on customer service/returns since I didn't need to contact them 'cause no problems with cartridges (yet?), HP Color LaserJet 2600n Mfg 2006 bought from CompUSA in '06 that's how old this is.

Original ink cartridge by brother LC- 51

This is an original cartridge for the Brother MFC 665 all in one printer, which is the only printer I have found with an answering machine. Printer,copyer, scanner, fax,answering machine , phone. I have found its always best to buy OEM print cartridges as I have had trouble with knock offs before. This 2 pack black is good to buy because you always go through more black ink than color, and the 2 pack is a little cheaper.

Try these you might just save buying another printer

I was frustrated with buying verrrrrrry expensive HP ink for my printer. I don't use it most of the time and have had the ink dry out before I could use it. That's my fault but when it costs around $75.00 for ink it just didn't make sense. I thought it might be smarted to buy a color laser printer to eliminate the dry ink problem.

I tried remanufactured ink before and they didn't work.

Once I saw this ink and the reviews I thought why not try it before I spent $400.00 on a new printer.

After I put them in I had to go through a couple of pressing OK but after that They work GREAT.

For this price I'll keep my printer until it dies.

Hopefully you will have the same results.

Does A Lot for Its Price and Size

Over the years I've installed many network printers. This is one of Canon's newest models and it was the easiest yet to install. The PIXMA MX420 also functions as a network sheet-feed or flat-platen scanner, color or black and white photocopy machine and a fax machine all in one low-cost package. I tested its capabilities and they all worked quite well. This device will work just fine when it's connected to a single computer with a USB cable (not supplied) but what is really handy is being able to share its many functions with everybody on the network.

Although this device will also work with a CAT-5 network connection, my installation was a good test for this device's Wi-Fi sensitivity. I located this multi-function machine on the second floor and at the opposite end of my home from my wireless router, which is in my cellar. During the set-up process the printer quickly found my Wi-Fi signal. After entering my WEP encryption code into the printer it was ready to be "found" on the network by the installation software. Installing the software and registering the printer on-line went without a hitch.

Unlike Canon's higher-end models, such as the PIXMA MX882 which uses five separate ink cartridges (three for color and two for black and white), this model uses only two ink cartridges; one for black and white and the other for color. Using Canon brand glossy photo paper this printer delivered excellent, lab-quality photo prints. Prints on other brands of glossy photo paper were disappointing. On plain photocopy paper, text and graphics look very good.

Color prints can also be made directly from compatible cameras and memory cards, simply by plugging them into the appropriate place on the front of the PIXMA MX420 and then using the small LCD color screen to choose what you want to print and how. The scanner works directly with TWAIN compatible applications such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photo-Paint or via the Canon utilities included with this device on the installation disk.

If you ever have a problem, Canon has support people who are in the USA, actually answer the phone and can communicate clearly in the English language. My first-hand experience with Canon's support people has been very positive. In summary, this device packs multiple capabilities into a single low-cost package that can be accessed by any computer on the network where it's installed. A step-up to Canon's PIXMA MX882 for an additional cost of $50 to $60 will add a second software-selectable paper source and separate ink tanks for better photo reproduction and lower ink cost on all brands of glossy photo paper.

Very Good Home Office Printer

This is my second Canon printer. I previously owned the MP520 which is still going strong at a friend's house.

This new printer is faster & has the wireless feature which we really like. We have this new printer out of the way in a closet since there are no wires to connect to the computer. Setup was simple and the print quality is excellent. Make sure you follow instructions for setup and that you have the correct settings checked on your computer for top quality prints when printing photos.

This printer has 2 ink cartridges vs. my old version that had 5 cartridges. There is good & bad with this setup. The good is that you only need 2 cartridges. The bad is that you will need to replace the whole color cartridge when ink is low; with the 5 cartridge system you can replace just the ink color that was low.

The "XL" cartridges have more ink in them for less money per ml.

Great Printer - Great Price

I researched this printer against higher priced HP printers at Costco. This printer had better ratings so I bought it. The first thing I noticed was the installation compared to my old wireless HP 6980 (which it replaced) was awesome. 3 Laptops wirelessly connected and a desktop usb connection all within 30 minutes. Just connect it to your wireless SSID with the password, put in the disk load the software and it works for XP, Vista and Win 7 (comes with a MAC disk but I am too poor to afford one of those) the disk software will find the printer for you and connect it laptop or whatever. Do try to do it in windows by adding a printer and browsing the network or by going to your router to add it, none of that is needed, in fact it probably won't work if you try to do it that way which I did by habit. I printed out test pages from each and the print quality was great. I don't plan on using this for photos, that's what costco online is for at 9cents a 6x9 who would be foolish enough to do prints on a Inkjet anyway? This mainly going to used for letters, printing from the internet, scanning and copying.
Also the ink cartridges cost considerably less than my HP ones that are $72 bucks for a combo pack. HP is going to goodwill. Also you can load the entire installation CD on a thumbdrive or hard drive and keep it there so you don't have to hunt around for a CD or you can load multiple systems at the same time. I would give it 5 stars but it is a bit loud, no reason not to buy. I would recommend the printer to a friend.

Can't Tell it from Epson

I don't do high quality Photo printing so I can't state the this ink is great for pictures but for all of my Black printing and the color for a larger powerpoint presentation it has worked great. I can't tell any difference from the Factory Ink and this is less than half price.

NOT in OEM packaging as advertised

Paid full retail Epson price and they were NOT in OEM packaging as shown on the product page, but were individual carts in bubble wrap. This almost always means the carts are third world surplus or rejects and are often very old. When we pay full retail and the product page shows carts in regular OEM packaging that's what we expect to get, because we've been through this many, many times. Often these retailers are using "pulls" from returned defective printers in which the carts supplied with the printers are "short filled", meaning that some factories only fill them partially, just to "get you started" with your new printer, knowing that you'll then have to buy new carts after only a few pages. Insist on regular, dated, IN THE FACTORY OEM RETAIL PACKAGING if you're paying full retail price. We feel this is just another scam by ink resellers, as if the printer manufacturers weren't screwing us badly enough already. We're sick of it and you should be too. You must apparently actually email the retailer and make them say IN WRITING that they are selling actual, fresh, OEM packaged carts. Even then, will they just lie and send you pulls or surplus opened carts anyway? Yes, some will.

Perfect for the price.

** UPDATE ** I bought another set of 200 sheets. I went through the first pack without one problem. Nothing changes from my review below either. They hold up very well and for the price it is a great deal. This batch I got from seller Universal Labels and the print seems better on this set. It doesn't smear as easy as the last one, the label seems a bit softer to absorb the ink a little better. So they are slightly better than the first batch.

First off, the review I'm writing is from the product from seller VeraGJ. Their shipping time was very fast and they packed the paper very well so the sheets would not be damaged during shipping.

I have had no issues sticking the labels on packages, the adhesive seems strong and it gets the job done.

The labels are light so if you have writing underneath it makes a shadow on the label, but it is not too bad, these are not made for covering up older labels.

I use these with an inkjet (HP) printer and the ink smears (dusty) a bit at first and mostly in heavy areas (more than typical paper does). So far this is not a deal breaker for me. I am just careful applying the label to the package if I apply it before it dries. The paper feeds well through the printer as well, no issues there yet. (I will update this if that changes). But I'm able to feed the sheet through multiple times if I need to print one at a time.

I would say if you do not mind waiting for ink to dry and do not have to cover up old labels then these will be good for you, especially for the quantity and price. If those are two pain points for you, you will probably look to buy better quality.

I simply bought these so I could stop printing out labels and taping them to packages. I do not to heavy volume maybe around 10 at a time at most, and feed them in my printer as needed.

For the price I will put up with these few annoyances. I wanted a cheap product to get the job done without any impact to shipping, and this only adds a few cents per shipment. With how cheap these are it probably costs similar to printing and taping the label on a package, but this is way more convenient.

If you're looking for cheap, that's what you get. I'm sure there is better products out there, you'll just have to pay a higher price for them.

Price is Right, But You Get What You Pay For

I do a lot of shipping from my home office, and previously used labels from the Stamps.com store... which were a bit pricey. It suddenly occurred to me that there might be a less-expensive option, so I landed on these.

Eh.

Yes, they're cheap. And yes... they're cheap. I've had no problems getting them to run through my printer, but as others noted, the ink smears badly and it's very difficult to tell which side is "up." I've also noticed that in damp weather the labels lose their grip, so I've started taping them on.

Here's the thing. I really don't expect a lot from a label except for what it's supposed to do. Which is... stick to the box or envelope I put it on and not smear all over itself and my hands. These labels just don't cut it. I won't be buying them again.

Great labels, my only complaint is the back/front is not marked. The seam between labels is very thin. So unless you have perfect vision...you will have to work hard to figure what side goes into the printable side. other than that, I like the quality.

Worth the implementation effort so far

As most reviewers here, I was looking for a way to avoid paying the abusive prices for the original cartridge replacements for my Canon Pixma MP560. When I found this product and saw the reviews, I saw the dark clouds in my printing sky open... really $67 bucks for an original ink refill set, no way!

After some investigation and reading, I ordered this item and had no delivery issues. Well, just one issue: instead of 1 Black Dye bottle and 2 Blk Pigment bottles, I received three Pigment based BLK bottles (***EDIT: from other reviewers: the dye based tank cannot be refilled with pigment ink, it WILL DAMAGE the printing heads. I contacted the supplier and after around two months they sent a black dye based ink bottle, free of charge. Ordered from SOL ***).
I had to overcome some little challenges when I finally decided to give a try to the refilling procedure (there are very helpful videos in You Tube, just type "Canon cartridge refill" or so).

1. First, the small hand drill included in the kit was not very helpful, instead I used the tip of a Leatherman knife to start drilling the wholes on the empty cartridges (it has to be done with extreme care or you will end up bleeding badly). If you have a Dremel tool I guess you can use it to drill the holes in an easier way. My guess is that the smaller the diameter, (you just need to be able to stick the syringe needle into the empty cartridge) the better.

2. Once the refill holes were ready, I closed the tank ink output hole and proceeded to fill the tank with the syringe and needle. No issues here, except getting my fingers dirty (USE latex gloves). I think I put like 7 ml for the big BLK Pigment based tank.

3. The kit just included some metal duct tape pieces (my guess was that they were included to close the drilled holes), but I learned that they did not work very well to seal the drilled holes, once I removed the ink output sealer (the orange lever that seals the tank when the tank is new). Note: IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO PERFECTLY SEAL YOUR DRILLED HOLES.
It took me about three refilling attempts with the same tank to realize that if some air goes into the tank through a defectively sealed drilled hole, your tank will drip, and drip, and drip... until it is empty... Not recommended at all. It will cause a mess inside your printer (or at least on your table and fingers).
Make SURE that you can PERFECTLY SEAL the drilled holes. I ended up using some very small screws along with some teflon tape wound on the top threads of the screws.

4. After refilling and sealing the drilled holes, I made sure that there were no leaks. Refill the tank and check that it does not drip after removing the output seal. I left the tanks sitting on a container for 24 hrs and since I saw no problems I installed them in the printer (Magenta, Blk pigment and Cyan).

4.1) Sorry, I forgot to say that I also purchased the chip resetter for the original tanks. This device allows you to reset the ink level in the tank's chip, which tells the printer that the tank is full or empty. Otherwise, your printer will always tell you that the tank is empty, not sure if some Canon models prevent you from printing under this condition. On my printer I was able to print even with very low ink levels, but I wanted to be able to reset the chips anyway.

5. After installing the refilled tanks, I ran the printing pattern test sheet (look for it in the printer menu) and no issues. However several days later, I saw some printing issues on some color images I was printing. Ran the printing pattern page test and it was not ok, the problem came from the BLK pigment tank. I then ran the deep injectors cleaning cycle and voila! the problem was gone.

6. So far I have printed around 25 pages in black, around 15 in color and a couple pictures and I have not seen important color accuracy issues. However I am not a color expert, beware.

All in all, this is a GREAT money saver if you have some patience to go through the learning curve in the tank refilling process. Not very complicated if done with enough care. Considering that the investment was around 30 bucks including the chip resetter, and assuming that you can refill your tanks a min of 4 times... let's do the math: $67*4 = $268 - 67 -$15 (tanks and ink investment) = $186 USD of savings assuming a not very optimistic scenario. Really the ink bottles should last at least 8 to 10 refill cycles before getting empty.

*** UPDATE 1/19/2012 *** I just completed my second refill cycle and it took less than 10 minutes to refill 2 color tanks and the bigger pigment tank. So far, so good, still loving this product so much, I could almost hear the sound of money savings when I was refilling my tanks last night :)
*** UPDATE 5/15/2012 *** Fourth refill cycle for the black pigment tank and third for at least two of the color tanks, all of them still working fine.
*** UPDATE 01/28/2013 *** My Canon printer finally stopped printing, I believe due to printing pads/vacuum system clog (a couple small pads prime the print head by applying some vacuum every time a printing cycle is started). Not sure if refilling the ink cartridges had an influence on this issue, but since I know that fixing the printer is usually more expensive than replacing it, I just moved to an Epson Workforce 545 using a CISS (continuous ink supply system, the one with larger tanks and hoses running into the printer) which is less messy and time demanding than refilling the tanks. I do not regret the tank refilling since with the money saved I could have bought two or three brand new Canon printers... have a good one!

Be Aware of What you are Buying

YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF WHAT THEY WILL ACTUALLY SEND YOU.

What I received was: 3 bottles of color ink-photo color (UV Dye) C-Y-M
I also received 3 bottles of blank ink-photo color (UV Dye) B

You cannot tell from this advertisement exactly what you will get. I would have preferred the hydro color dye, but the photo color will do. However, my black cartridge is PGI-5BK. While the dye ink is supposed to work in that cartridge, I would prefer to receive pigment ink instead of the dye ink. All 3 black inks that I received were photo color dye ink.

I also did not receive the pressure-izer, steel hook, steel beeds, small sticker, bigger sticker, and burette that the order said would be included. They said that they will send me "the missing item right away", but I would have been more comfortable if they said the "missing items". We will see if I receive them.

I contacted them by email, requesting them to send me 2 pigment black inks, and this is part of the response I received: "We will lost money if we send you two pigment blank ink because the pigment ink is much more expensive than the Dye ink." They did offer to give me a refund if I shipped the product back to them, but the cost to ship the product to me and then back to them would be more than what I paid for the product.

I have read other comments where people received pigment ink instead of dye ink. I guess you never do know what they are going to send you.

BEWARE! The needles that they sent me to inject the ink with are actual "medical needles" with extremely sharp points. I don't advise using them. When I have ordered from other companies in the past, what I got were needles with dull ends, these being more effective and less dangerous to use and clean.

It would be nice if the sites on amazon.com were more specific as to exactly what kind of ink that they are sending you. The description of 3 bottles of black and 3 bottles of color ink is too vague. You should probably just assume that they will send you the cheapest ink possible. Refilling your ink cartridges is a great idea. But there does come a point where cheap ink is just too "cheap". I have ordered from other companies and have received 3 color inks, 3 photo color inks, and the rest in black pigment ink. If you don't care what kind of ink you get (dye vs pigment, hydro color vs photo color), then maybe this site will work for you. If you do care, then I would recommend elsewhere.

I received no satisfaction from customer service. Rest be assured that I will never order from them again.

This is a great way to save money

These are the correct colors and have enough ink in here for the average fellow to fill his ink for the rest of his live. Since all of these printer people price their ink close to gold, its a great value, and filling the cartridges is very simple and only takes a few minutes on HP ink.

DIY Wedding

I used these postcards as "Save the Date" cards for my wedding guests. You can either download templates for Adobe/Microsoft products from Avery's website, use built-in Avery templates (MS Publisher) or create your own layout and use the lightweight practice sheet to check your placement. The printing looked very crisp, no smearing or blurring. For a more professional look, you can bleed print on these since there are only two postcards/sheet. Perforation is fantastic and comes away cleanly. The only thing missing is a downloadable template for Pages for Mac users.

Easy to use; produced very nice results

We used these instead of traditional card-and-envelope cards to send relatively eco-friendly holiday greetings from our nonprofit nature preserve. The image on the front was a color photo, which printed beautifully. The cards looked great, printed without problems, and snapped apart easily and cleanly. The cards lived up to their claims and to our expectations.

Versatile Label Printer, Excellent In Its Price Range

I purchased this printer for use both at work and at home. I work in the IT industry and use this for labeling computers, patch panels, switches, routers, etc. This PT-2730VP replaces an older Brother model PT-1800 that I've had for 8 years. The durability of my old PT-1800 made me want to consider a Brother again this time. Even after 8 years, the PT-1800 is still going strong, I just wanted more features. My short list of requirements for a new label printer were:

- must run on batteries for "in the field" use
- must also include an AC adapter so it can be left on for extended periods when needed
- must have a QWERTY keyboard
- must have a back-lit display for use in areas with minimal lighting
- must be able to use as BOTH a stand-alone printer and as a computer-driven printer
- prefer a unit that comes with a case - as my label printer gets fairly heavy use (make that ab-use)
- should have 'reasonable' label making software included
- should not waste large amounts of label tape (my only real complaint with the older PT-1800)
- labels should look good - i.e. not smeared or ragged
- should be reasonable in price

In all these areas, I'd say that the Brother PT-2730VP either meets or exceeds my requirements. On whole, I gave it 5 stars. It's not perfect but I feel it is an excellent value - a great balance of features and price. I'm not aware of any other label printer in this price range that offers better quality than the PT-2730VP.

I'd like to comment on the hard-shell plastic case that comes with this printer, especially since one reviewer was unhappy with it. I certainly understand where that person is coming from - I too have more tape cartridges than will fit in the case. I too would prefer more room for labels. And let's not stop there; while we're at it, I'd also like room for a spare set of batteries. Oh, and scissors. Can't forget the scissors. But all that said, I feel that the case is quite rugged, it protects the printer well, it looks good, and it provides enough space for the basics - i.e. the printer, all cables/adapter and 3-4 large tape cartridges. So it's not a bad case. Again, considering the price, it's a good deal.

The labels are the standard TZ-Tape series used by many Brother models. You can find them lots of places - at least in the basic black on white style. If you want the more exotic types and colors, you'll probably need to order them on-line. Compare these labels to other brands in the same price range and I think you'll be happy with the quality. Cartridges run between $14-$23 depending on style and width.

One advantage this PT-2730VP label printer has over my older PT-1800 is that it is compatible with the "1 inch" wide labels (actually 0.94"). My older printer stopped at the 3/4 inch tape. However, this printer does not print on the 1.5 inch TZ-tape available from Brother.

Another improvement over my older unit is that PT-2730VP wastes far less label tape. All label printers are going to have some wasted tape - but the PT-2730VP does very good job of keeping this to a minimum. On average there is less than an inch of total excess per label. My PT-1800 regular required 3-4 times that amount. Less waste means more labels per cartridge.

The software that comes with this unit is very nice for the price (P-Touch Editor 5.0). It has lots of useful features and is well designed. It installed and ran without a problem on all 3 computers I needed it on: my Windows 7 box at home, my Windows 7 laptop at work, and my XP desktop at work. No errors or crashes have occurred on any of the systems I'm using it on. With this software, you can create and store as many labels as you want. I use my laptop in the field. I've got all my label designs on all 3 machines. Others have provided good photos of the unit itself so I uploaded a capture of the P-Touch Editor screen and a photo of what the label looked like when I printed it use black on yellow. As you can see, graphics/logos are easy to include. The software is fairly intuitive if you've used drawing software before. There's a "Professional" mode for experienced users - and an "Express" mode that is simpler and has fewer choices.

You can also "insert Symbol" - this lets you insert characters from fonts like Wingdings, Dingbats, etc. These can be scaled to any convenient size.

It prints any of about 18-20 different types of bar codes, including the increasingly popular QR Code.

Just about anything can be rotated, scaled, styled, etc.

Tip: Since this is a monotone label printer, importing a graphic such as a logo works best if you start with a black and white version. Avoid images with lots of color and/or gradients/shading and or fine details - you'll be much happier with the results.

Standalone Works Great.

I have not needed to hook this to my pc, so this review is for standalone service only. I have used the Labeler to make numerous labels for cabling and other household devices. The specialty wire/cable labels hold on very well even outdoors throughout the year and the seasons. Label generation is very easy using the keyboard. To save label waste, I prepare all of my wording in advance and turn off the cutter until the last label. When I have finished I use scissors to cut and separate and thereby save a lot of wasted label blank that would be generated if I let the machine cut each one. There are enough built-in fonts to generate tight text or very blocky readable text. Bold or italic, it all worked very well. They keyboard is a little rubbery, but you're making labels, not typing a novel. For standalone it is great. If I can edit this review, I will add to it when / if I use the PC interface. As of now, I would buy again.

***UPDATE*** I finally had occasion to hook the label maker to my pc. I downloaded the latest software from the Brother website. Despite the instructions on the original paper label pasted over the USB port, you actually have to have the label maker powered on and connected to the USB port before you can load the printer driver. The Editor and Updater will load without the label maker connected though. The software works well. I would not call it user friendly, but it can be figured out without a lot of effort. You get more fonts available and it is easier to type on a pc keyboard. It worked very well and I was very pleased to be able to preview many different changes and options far more quickly than when standalone. My feelings stand. Recommended and I would buy again.

Great Labeler. Terrible Case.

You can buy this labeler with or without the case.

It is hard to imagine how anybody could have designed such an ineffective, clumsy, poorly designed case. What you want to carry with your labeler is a large variety of cartridges. But more than just a few simply will not fit.

The case carefully stores a spare set of batteries, the manual, the power supply, the CD, and the USB cable. But the amount of storage for the tape cartridges is minimal. They could have thought it through and allowed you to store twice as many cartridges as they do. But instead they provided specific places for a second set of batteries and a large power pack (which you don't need since the labeler operates forever on the set within it.

The labeler is otherwise just great. The menus are easy and clear, it can do a lot of things, and it makes great labels. The only missing feature is the ability to change boldness and fonts within a label. The entire label must be the same.

ok but not great

These HP 21 black and 23 color inkjet cartridges are very light, easy to install and they allow the printer to print out good quality, durable black and all colors of ink on the page. They store for about a year after you buy them so if you want to stock up for your office or personal printing needs that's great! (They even come with an expiration date!) HP also packs these well so that it is difficult for the cartridge to become damaged during transit. These ink cartridges are also compact so storing them is easy.

One thing that I don't like is that the ink goes too quickly. If you print a lot, you might even need to replace this cartridge every ten days or so. My needs are about 15 pages per week and I have to change cartridges roughly every six weeks. That's not good; although to be fair to these HP ink cartridges I am printing graphics.

Another caveat: in a store you'll probably save some money buying this two inkjet cartridge pack. On some websites (ahem) the savings is lost as another reviewer correctly notes.

Overall, the quality of the ink is rather good despite my one complaint that the ink goes faster than I would like it to go. Nevertheless, the cartridges provide you with the ability to print a multitude of colors on your paper and replacement is easy.

Three stars for this product. These ink cartridges lose a point for not lasting longer; and this pack of two inkjet cartridges loses another star for being a little overpriced by some vendors.

These are cheap knockoffs, not HP cartridges as stated and shown in the product picture.
If you want fake cartridges, there are cheaper ones, or you can refill old ink cartridges yourself. If you want genuine HP cartridges, these are not them.

Good value. I've used the product for printing labels and for printing print-and-play board games. This is not photo-quality paper, but it's still very good. I've not had any problems with yellowing, curls or adhesion.

Good adherence

These worked well for the task of creating posters using a regular printer and pasting them on poster board.

As others have noted, care must be taken to ensure that you have the correct side for printing. It is difficult to determine which is the paper and which is the backing.

They stick well to cardboard and would work well for packing labels. It is difficult to remove the labels after they are placed.

Universal Full-Page Labels

These universal labels are every bit as good as the name brand product. I was in the process of ordering the name brand at twice the price when I saw the listing for these universal labels. I tested the product using both an ink jet and a laser printer. Does the job and at less money. I will look for this brand in the future when I need to order other sized labels.

There are better choices

This cartridge was designed for one purpose... To keep you busy buying ink!! Most printers that uses this cartridge will also accept the CL-41 cartridge (double capacity) or the CL-51 cartridge (triple capacity). Whether you're buying factory new (O.E.M.) cartridges or refilled/recycled carts., do yourself a favor and pick the 40 or the 50 series carts. and get far more ink for only a little more than these!! The same goes for the black cartridge that mates with this one.

Canon CL-31 Color Ink Cartridge

This purchase was a wise choice that provided performance as advertised. I see no banding or other imperfections when using this cartridge. In fact, the printed results for both graphics and text are well-blended and crisp, respectively. Surprisingly, the results supersedes that of a more expensive, albeit older, HP printer that I use. The cost of these cartridges for the Canon is more economical than the HP. As usual the "no-hassle" ordering through Amazon.com is convenient and secure. I would definitely recommend this product for its value and exceptional performance. Thanks again Amazon.com for a great online ordering experience!

We paid for the brand name and did not get the page yield promised. The cartridge only lasted 3 months from home use. Very disappointed with the product. I would greatly appreciate the chance to give cannon a second chance, but am skeptical that I will have the same results.
